GRX Secures $490M Arbitration Award Against Poland
After a prolonged battle for compensation dating back to 2019, GRX (formerly known as Prairie Mining) has secured a monumental $490 million arbitration award against the Polish government. The dispute centered around GRX’s Jan Karski and Dębieńsko coal projects, with the Australia-Poland Bilateral Investment and Energy Charter treaties playing key roles in the case. While the Tribunal upheld compensation claims related to the Jan Karski mine, other claims were dismissed.
Interest compounded since 2019 has inflated the compensation to a significant figure, and will continue until full payment is made. This arbitration victory is a pivotal moment for GRX, which has since transitioned from coal projects to copper exploration. GRX’s recent earn-in agreement gives it a 90% interest in Group 11 Exploration, focusing on the Tannenberg exploration license in Hesse, Germany, where historic silver-copper mines are being explored. Drilling at the Richelsdorf Dome target has returned promising results, with intersections including 2.1m at 2.7% copper and 48g/t silver.
In addition, GRX is exploring the Arctic Rift Project in Greenland with a plan to obtain 100% ownership through an earn-in agreement with Greenfields Exploration.
DRE Makes Major Niobium and Rare Earth Discovery in Australia
Dreadnought Resources (ASX: DRE) is gaining attention after a successful nine-hole drill program at its Stinger discovery in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region. DRE is targeting carbonatite-hosted niobium and rare earth elements (REE) within the Gifford Creek REE-Nb complex, and the latest results have exceeded expectations.
The explorer’s drill intercepts include up to 1.3% NbO5 over a strike length of 1.2 km, with mineralization open in all directions. This discovery is critical, as niobium is used in high-strength, low-alloy steel for renewables, infrastructure, and automobiles, making it an essential material in the transition to a low-carbon economy. The company expects additional results from other critical mineral exploration efforts later this month.
SHP Expands Potash Exploration in Germany with $450,000 Cash Injection
South Harz Potash (ASX: SHP) is making significant strides in its potash exploration efforts in Germany, thanks to a $450,000 cash injection to assess the potential purchase of the Sollstedt mine and move forward with Stage 2 permitting for its flagship Ohmgebirge brownfield project. The Ohmgebirge project, part of the larger South Harz Potash development, boasts an indicated resource of 258Mt at 13.2% potassium. The brownfield development presents a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly option compared to greenfield alternatives.
This funding brings SHP’s recent capital raising to over $2 million, bolstered by strong board support. Shares of the junior potash explorer have surged 33% to 1.2c.
POL Nears Endeavor Mine Restart with Strong Drilling Results
POL Metals (ASX: POL) has seen promising results from its Endeavor mine in New South Wales, with geotechnical drilling at the Upper North Lode area yielding high-grade intercepts of up to 13.5g/t gold, 1410g/t silver, 12.5% zinc, and 34.0% lead.
The results confirm the Upper North Lode’s potential to support accelerated mining rates as the mine prepares for its restart, with projected first cashflows expected in H1 2025. The mine plan estimates production of 260,000 tonnes of zinc, 90,000 tonnes of lead, and 10.6Moz of silver, generating approximately $1.85 billion in revenue over its initial 10-year life. Shares in POL jumped 17.6% following the drilling results.
NVA’s Estelle Gold Project in Alaska Shows Strong Expansion Potential
Nova Minerals (ASX: NVA) is making progress on its Estelle gold project in Alaska, with the first eight holes from a 21-hole program at the RPM North pit area returning multiple intersections of more than 5g/t gold from surface, with interval grades reaching up to 39g/t. The company’s goal is to expand the near-surface mineralization above the high-grade core of RPM North, with results feeding into an upcoming resource update.
The project sits within Alaska’s prolific Tintina gold belt, and NVA aims to move forward with a low-capex, high-margin operation to fund the expansion of its larger 9.9Moz gold resource. The company is also exploring antimony potential at the site, a critical mineral in high demand for various industrial applications.
