First Saguenay: A Major Step for Green Energy in Quebec
First Phosphate is advancing with its new “First Saguenay” facility in Saguenay (La Baie), Quebec, a 10,000tpa iron phosphate cathode active material precursor plant. This facility will be crucial in the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, aligning with the global shift towards green energy.
Community Support and Economic Impact
The plant will create approximately 100 high-tech jobs, supported by local organizations including Promotions Saguenay, the Saguenay-Le Fjord Chamber of Commerce, and the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation. The initiative is seen as a cornerstone for regional economic growth and community development.
Government and Local Leadership Praise the Project
Quebec officials, including Ms. Andrée Laforest and MP François Tremblay, praised the project’s potential to boost the local economy and solidify Quebec’s role in the global battery supply chain.
Strategic Location and Future Expansion
Located next to Proco Inc.’s processing plant, First Saguenay benefits from existing infrastructure, essential utilities, and direct rail access, positioning it as a key player in the North American battery industry. The site’s design allows ample space for future expansion, enhancing its strategic importance in the evolving green energy landscape.
