Orla Mining (OLA.TO, ORLA) has released the final assay results from its 2023 drill program on the Camino Rojo gold project in Mexico. The 2023 program consisted of almost 38,000 meters of drilling in 56 holes, indicating the average depth exceeded 600 meters per hole. That’s not a surprise as the company was intending to complete a sulphide drill program and the sulphide zone is located deeper below surface. Some of the holes also focused on the Camino Rojo Extension as they drilled beneath the sulphide infill drill area to zoom in on the mineralization beyond the open pit resource boundaries.

Some of the sulphide infill drill results are surprisingly strong with for instance 127 meters (true width) containing 3.21 g/t gold and 37.7 meters (again true width) containing 4.1 g/t gold. All drill results (from 3 drill campaigns totalling in excess of 50,000 meters of drilling) will now be compiled in a maiden underground resource estimate which should be published in the second half of this year.

Orla Mining will continue to drill at Camino Rojo this year as it is planning to complete 30,000 meters of drilling as the focus will shift to near-mine exploration.
