
SYDNEY— New Frontier Minerals Ltd. has intensified its focus on heavy rare earths exploration at its Harts Range Project in Australia’s Northern Territory, after uncovering 46 priority targets in a detailed geophysical survey. The survey results, interpreted by Southern Geoscience Consultants at a 1:10,000 scale, revealed multiple zones of interest for heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), uranium, and niobium, with 18 targets ranked as high priority.
The company’s geologists will return to the site in April 2025 to begin systematic mapping and sampling, aiming to refine and validate drill targets as part of its exploration campaign.
“The interpreted geophysical results have exceeded our expectations,” said Chairman Ged Hall. “The scale of these targets—especially the uranium anomalies associated with structural trends—points to a much greater exploration opportunity than initially anticipated.”

High-Priority Targets for Heavy Rare Earths Exploration
Of the 46 targets identified:
- 18 are classified as Priority 1 (highest confidence for HREE-Nb-U potential)
- 16 as Priority 2, and
- 12 as Priority 3
The Cusp and Bobs prospects, located along a 5-kilometer east-west fault structure, have emerged as early standouts. These zones show signs of mineralised extensions and are linked to a magnetic anomaly that may indicate an underlying intrusion—a favorable host environment for heavy rare earths mineralisation.
Why Heavy Rare Earths Exploration Matters Now
Heavy rare earths are essential in the manufacturing of permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, advanced defense systems, and various high-tech applications. Unlike light rare earths, which are more abundant, heavy rare earths such as dysprosium and terbium are significantly rarer and command higher prices.
Australia is seen as a stable, resource-rich jurisdiction for heavy rare earths exploration, especially as Western governments seek to reduce dependency on China, which dominates the global supply chain.
“If successfully developed, Harts Range could play a strategic role in diversifying global heavy rare earths supply,” said Dr. Stephanie Golding, a critical minerals expert based in Melbourne. “It’s promising to see a multi-element play that includes uranium and niobium as well.”
Exploration Strategy: From Geophysics to Drilling
The structural interpretation by Southern Geoscience revealed a localized magnetic anomaly across parts of the project area. This anomaly could point to intrusive geological features favorable for hosting mineralisation, a theory that will be tested during upcoming surface campaigns.
In April, NFM’s exploration team will:
- Conduct geological mapping
- Collect rock and soil samples
- Define drill targets for the 2025 campaign
The integration of geophysics with on-the-ground sampling is expected to fast-track exploration and reduce drilling risk.
“We are adopting a targeted approach to de-risk our drill planning,” Hall noted. “The priority now is to convert high-ranking targets into clear mineralised zones.”
Harts Range Positioned for Rare Earth Breakthrough
With a significant set of high-confidence targets and a clear roadmap for near-term exploration, New Frontier Minerals has placed itself at the forefront of heavy rare earths exploration in Australia. The project’s multipronged mineralisation—spanning rare earths, uranium, and niobium—adds further upside potential for strategic development.
“We’re only scratching the surface at Harts Range,” said Hall. “This geophysical data gives us a foundation to build what could be a nationally significant resource.”
