Australian Company Attracts NZ Mining Workers with $150K Starting Salaries
Mineral Resources is trying to attract hundreds of mining workers from New Zealand to Australia.
The Perth-based mining company was founded by Mike Grey, a New Zealander. Grey hopes that their advertisement will attract more NZ mining workers to join them.
The jobs and salaries offered include:
- Crane operators – A$140,000 – A$200,000 (NZ$152,000 – NZ$216,000)
- Electricians – A$140,000 – A$180,000
- Boilermakers – A$140,000 – A$180,000
- Safety advisers – A$120,000 – A$180,000
- Construction supervisors. – A$180,000 – A$300,000
The company’s chief executive for mining said, “I have no doubt people can get half their salary again or double, and that’s in Australian dollars as well.”

He also said, “We have got about a thousand positions open across our business, which is pretty vast.”
Grey moved to Australia in the 1990s and currently lives in a rural area outside of Perth.
Mineral Resources need more than 1000 mining workers over the next six months
Mineral Resources was expanding with the construction of the Onslow iron ore mine in the West Pilbara region of Western Australia. The expansion project will run for the next 18 months to two years.
Grey further said that they will need 1000 to 1200 mining workers over the next six months and expects to tap workers from New Zealand.
